Soren and Velma came out to Queens today to eat at a diner near our house. Soren's been having a couple of difficult days so that's why he isn't smiling but pics of them outside our house, in Howard's car, are here.

Independence in the wheelchair has come at last to Soren. Sunday saw him wheeling himself out of the room with his one good foot several times. I noticed that at 3:00 when the shift changed, he went out to the desk to say hello. He was in excellent spirits, his speech has improved again and he's darned spoiled by all his outings for the holidays. ( Read more... )

Soren finally got out of rehab on a day pass today. We headed to a nice restaurant in Brooklyn called Ellis. Soren had a wee glass of "apple juice" and seemed to enjoy the food and the company. A few of his friends joined us but we didn't take any pictures of them unfortunately. We will do that next time to get everyone in the shots. The pictures ( Read more... )

Soren's outing did not happen today. Although the social worker told Howard he was cleared for a pass, we were told no when we got there because he has been assigned a 1:1. Because of that, he's not allowed to leave the building. Many discussions and lots of read tape later all we could do was arrange for a meeting tomorrow to get him a pass for a ( Read more... )

We saw Soren this past Sunday. It was a good visit but his medication had been changed so he was a little more subdued and a little woobly. Still, we made conversation and talked about the imminent move to a sub acute facility. While we were there, Soren was working on an assessment of his mental state and memory. I keep forgetting to post about the weekend. Being sick will do that. Anyway, Howard and i hadn't seen Soren and Velma in two weeks. What a difference two weeks made.
